A bird in a harlequin suit

The challenge of this project is the following

The transformation of this monochrome print into a beautiful flaming bird.

This is an original and interesting creative process that I look forward to sharing with you.

We will guide our choice of colors with the palette below. Of course, we will reserve the right to expand it as we go along. To achieve our goals, we will also choose basic embroidery stitches and use them in such a way as to obtain a varied and particularly structured result.

You will find a file to download containing the engraving and the pattern necessary for the realization of this project HERE or directly in the menu of the blog under the heading “Patterns 2023”.

Below is the first choice of threads selected using the chosen color palette

The DMC stranded cotton chosen are

898, 433, 435, 947, 741, 742, 743, 3753, 932, 931

Here are the first stitches of this project

I chose to start with this part of the pattern because I knew exactly how I wanted to interpret it, using a mix of triangular shapes, and an emblematic pattern of the harlequin costume.

Outline the triangles in a split backstitch with a thread in a neutral color to the chosen background fabric.

Using colors 435 and 741, fill in the first set of triangles in a satin stitch following the example in the photo.

Important, fill in the shapes inside the split backstitch.

Using colors 742 and 743, fill in the second set of triangles also with a satin stitch following the example in the photo.

Important, fill in the shapes outside the split backstitch.
