A bird in a Harlequin suit

The head

To embroider the bird’s head, I added three shades of yellow, DMC 727, 3078 and 746 and a red 150 as well as the color 13A autumn from House of Embroidery.

The throat of the bird is made of a diagonal weaving pattern. To do this start by laying the warp with 2 threads and color743.

The weaving of the weft is done from right to left. Start with 2 passes, also with 2 threads and color 743, alternately over and under 2 threads, the 2 rows are identical and you end up at the starting point. Now weave 2 new rows by simply shifting them one thread to the left from the first two. Continue in the same way for each new pair of rows, always shifting them one thread to the left until the surface is completely covered. Finish by underlining the pattern with a split backstitch with 1 thread and color 946.

Embroider the center part of the head with long and short stitch 1 thread and colors 743, 727, 3078, and 746. Start on the left side of the surface with color 743 and end on the right side with color 746.

To make the simple trellis stitch, form an even grid using 1 thread straight stitch and color 742.

Embroider a tiny vertical straight stitch with 1 thread and color 13A at every grid intersection. Fill in the beak with long and short stitch 1 thread and color 13A.

First, draw lines at the top of the head and then fill in with 1 thread blanket stitch and colors 932, 931, and 3753. Use the photo as an example.

Underline the center part of the head with split backstitch 1 thread and color 946. Also, mark the two lines below the head in the same manner and with the color 931.

After padding both surfaces with 2 threads, embroider them with satin stitch 1 thread and the colors 946 and 931.

Now embroider the bottom of the eye with long and short stitch 1 thread and color 746. Using color 150, after underlining it in backstitch and padding it with 2 threads, fill in the pupil in satin stitch with 1 thread. Underline the eye contour with split backstitch 1 thread and the color 150.
