A sweet moment

Below is the heart I chose to embroider for Valentine’s Day 2024.

It’s a project full of freshness and greenery. Tulips and ranunculus are blooming. These two flowers are among the first to make their appearance at the start of the spring season, and I’m sure you’ll enjoy making them, as I did.

You’ll find the design for this project to download HERE and here’s the list of colors used to embroider this heart.

Raw silk House of Embroidery –  8 Bush, 25 Lemon and lime, 46A Brass

Perle cotton n°8 House of Embroidery – 58A Christmas green, 85C Tropicana

Stranded DMC cotton – 742, 743, 745, 498, 666, 350, 351, 352

or Soie d’Alger – 545, 543B, 2521, 2936, 936, 934, 932, 636

As usual, I encourage you to work to your own taste, using your own choice of colors, because in my opinion, one of the greatest pleasures of embroidery lies precisely in this choice.

Stems are embroidered in stem stitch with 2 threads and small leaves in leaf stitch with 1 thread.

The large leaves are embroidered in wheathear stitch with 2 threads.

After outlining the petals of these tulips in split backstitch, embroider the motifs in long and short stitch, using 1 thread.

After also outlining the petals of these ranunculus in backstitch, embroider them in satin stitch. Do the same for the centers and add star-shaped straight stitches to each petal for decoration.

To give this heart a finishing touch, I added large 2-wrap French knots made with either n°8 Perle cotton or stranded cotton but using 3 threads and a n°22 chenille needle.
