Raspberries and Butterflies

This little project is one of the bestsellers in my collection. It dates back to 2017, but I’ve been selling it ever since. By publishing it today, I am happy to share it with a large number of embroiderers.

It measures 12×14 cm and was originally embroidered on sand-colored linen with a variety of plain and variegated cotton threads.

You’ll find the photos and explanations needed to complete this project below, as well as the pattern to download HERE.

You’ll also find a list of the threads I used to embroider this work at the end of the article.

Leaves and fruits

The trunk of the raspberry tree is embroidered in long and short stitch with 1 thread. The leaf stems are stitched in stem stitch with 2 threads, and the leaves themselves in long and short stitch with 1 thread. The central vein is embroidered in backstitch and the side veins are made in straight stitch, all with a single thread.

The raspberries are embroidered in French knots with n°8 Perle cotton and a single wrap.

Butterflies

First, outline the wings with a split backstitch and one thread. Begin filling the wing area in long and short stitch with 1 thread from the outer edge of the design towards the body in successive steps, respecting the color order.

Next, embroider the bodies and head in a 1-thread satin stitch on a 3-thread padding. Finally, finish by embroidering the antennae and legs using straight stitches and adding a small lazy daisy stitch at the end of each antenna, all with a single thread.
