Sweet Tulip
Here’s the new project I’ve chosen to embroider with you in needle painting.
This magnificent tulip is an ideal subject for study and a challenge for shades and gradations.
Its interpretation in needle painting will enable us to work on the technique of subtle gradations, notably in the petals, with the transitions between pink, coral, orange, yellow, and white. Meanwhile, the flower’s relief is based on a play of light and shadow, requiring great precision in the superposition of threads and the choice of tones.
To prepare myself properly for this project, here is the preliminary work I did:
To clarify and simplify the palette of threads we will use, I made a quick sketch with colored pencils. This exercise enabled me to outline the dominant shades and make a first choice of colors, which I present below.
As always, other colors will probably be added to this selection as the embroidery progresses, but this base provides a solid starting point for tackling this design.
I chose to realize this work using DMC stranded cottons, whose wide palette enables me to represent the many nuances of the motif as closely as possible.
Renowned for their quality, these threads remain an essential reference when it comes to precision work in a technique as demanding as needle painting.
What’s more, they have the great advantage of being readily available in many countries at a very reasonable price, making them accessible to a large number of people.
If you’ve chosen to participate in this adventure, you can download the tulip design HERE.
Take the time to make your thread selection now, using the suggested indications, so that you’re ready to lay the first stitches with me as early as next week.
I look forward to embroidering this design with you!
