Sweet Tulip

part 2

With this article, we’ve got to the heart of the matter, with the necessary explanations for embroidering the first petals of this tulip.

Of course, as expected, as soon as the first stitches were completed, I had to expand the color palette by adding 5 new tones, as listed below.

These colors follow on from those already chosen, which will enable you to create more blended gradients.

These are colors 3827, 758, 350, 3078 and 746

The petals we’ll be embroidering today are those at the top of the flower. If you look closely, you’ll notice that they’re not open and spreading like the ones below but rather folded in on themselves, forming a fairly dense whole. Stitch placement plays a vital role in defining each petal and its direction, and I recommend that you mark the direction with a pencil on your design before starting work.

Upper petal

To embroider this petal, start by applying the first stitches in the upper right-hand part of the surface with color 963.

Continue by adding color 168.

and color 961.

then color 3722.

Finish with color 169 at the base of the petal.

Finally, embroider the reverse side of the petal with the white cotton.

Intermediate petals

For the oblique petal, I used colors 746 and 816 (respect the direction of the stitches!). For the 2 small petals at top right, I used colors 746, 921 and 919.

This photo shows how to define the 3 petals at the center of the flower using colors 3078, 3827, and 963.

The 3 central petals

Start by placing a few stitches with color 972 in the upper part of the right petal. The direction of the stitches is horizontal!

Embroider a tiny reverse with color 963 on the right edge of the surface, then fill a large part of the petal with color 758. Stitches are always placed horizontally.

Finish the petal with colors 921 and 350.

Embroider a few stitches on the top edge of the central petal with color 3827. Then, fill in half the surface with color 758.

Finish the petal by adding colors 921 and 350.

Embroider the top edge of the left petal with color 3078, emphasizing the tip. Add colors 350 and 3827.

Finish with color 921 and add a few stitches with color 816 in the lower right corner of the petal.
