Floral Pumpkin
part 1
To celebrate autumn, I wanted to interpret this pretty pumpkin blossom design in embroidery.
This delicate design inspired me to create a cheerful, luminous embroidery, mixing reds, golds, and ochres to prolong the season’s light a little longer.
Today I’m sharing the first part of this project, the floral center of the design. The outlines, stems, and leaves will be covered next week.
The pattern needed to make this pumpkin can be downloaded HERE.
I stitched my pumpkin on pale green linen using cotton threads; the finished piece measures about 10 × 10 cm. To bring it to life, I chose simple yet varied stitches that add both texture and lightness to the embroidery.
Here’s the list: blanket stitch, satin stitch, straight stitch, French knots, stem stitch, lazy daisy stitch, fly stitch, and fishbone stitch.
The motifs are worked with one or two strands of thread, depending on their size and the desired delicacy or density of the effect.
Here are the threads I used to make this embroidery.
They make up a warm palette, dominated by reds and golds, enhanced by a few deep greens to balance the whole.

Here are a few close-ups of the embroidery, which allow you to locate the use of the different stitches and color nuances in greater detail.
These photos are intended as a guide for those who will be making this pumpkin, both in terms of stitch selection and color placement, but I recommend taking advantage of such a whimsical design to create your own personal interpretation, true to your own creativity.
See you next Sunday for the second part of this creation.
