Tissue Box

tile 3

After bright yellow and brilliant blue, I’d like to introduce you to the third side of my tissue box today. I chose to embroider it in shades of old rose, a soft, elegant color that contrasts beautifully with the previous tones.
Still inspired by Mexican tiles, this new side is more delicate and refined, playing with sometimes stylized floral motifs where the subtlety of the gradations brings depth and harmony.

As before, I’ve explored different textures here by varying the embroidery stitches: some add relief, others create more sober flat tints, like a subtle interplay between simplicity and sophistication. This side adds a new dimension to the whole, proving that each new choice of color and stitch brings its own share of fantasy to this project..

You will find the file containing the design and the pattern numbering HERE

In this article, you’ll find all the explanations and photos needed to complete this face.

Explanations of the designs

Flower n°1

Start by embroidering the veins in the petals using Palestrina stitch with 2 strands of thread.

After outlining the top of the petals with split backstitches, embroider their upper part with satin stitches, using 1 thread.

Finish filling the petals with long and short stitch using 1 thread and gradient colors.

Add a contrasting border with several rows of 2-thread stem stitches at the top of each petal.

Here are the finished petals.

In the center, place a ribbed spider surrounded by an overcast chain stitch, all with 2 threads.

Flower n°2

Embroider the lower part of the flower using satin stitch with 2 threads.

Add 3 decorative straight stitches with 2 threads in the previously filled area and embroider the petals using blanket stitch with 2 threads, varying the colors.

Embroider the leaves using close fly stitch with 2 threads.

Part A

To embroider this branch at the top right of the design, I used stem stitch, blanket stitch, and bullion stitch, all with two strands of thread. The bud is also made with blanket stitch using two strands of thread “in steps” from bottom to top. Embroider the small twig with stem stitch using two strands of thread and French knots using two strands of thread and two wraps.

The branch below the flower is made in the same way as the one above.

The small flower in the upper middle part of the pattern is embroidered in satin stitch with 1 thread and embellished with 2-thread French knots. The various leaves are made using spaced fly stitch with a straight stitch between the branches, lazy daisy stitch and Cretan stitch. They are all worked with 2 threads.

Flower n°3

First, place a small straight stitch with 2 threads in each petal as shown in the photo.

Then embroider 2-thread lazy daisy stitch starting at the base of each petal and passing through the small straight stitch without touching the fabric. I made 3 loops.

Embroider a straight stitch with 2 threads from the top of the petal to just below the ring formed by the loops. Continue placing straight stitches to the left and right of this central stitch, spacing the loops slightly apart to leave a teardrop-shaped empty space in each petal.

To finish the flower, embroider straight stitches with 2 threads between the petals and a large French knot with 3 threads and 3 wraps in the center.

Part B

From left to right, the various leaves are embroidered using satin stitch with 1 thread, fishbone stitch with 2 threads, and close fly stitch and straight stitch with 2 threads. The flower is embroidered using lattice stitch and edged with split backstitches using 1 thread. I used 2 threads for the background of the lattice stitch and 1 thread for the grid.

The branch is embroidered using a lazy daisy stitch with two threads. The flower is made using a blanket stitch and the center using  French knots, all with two threads. Add a few straight stitches in a star pattern with one thread in the corolla. A spider web with two threads is used to make the large dots and a satin stitch with one thread to embroider the small ones.

Part C

Embroider the outline of the leaf using blanket stitch with 2 threads.

Continue with a wheatear stitch using 2 threads. The chain stitch is placed on the central rib and the branches overlap the blanket stitch.
.

Finish the leaf by placing straight stitches with 2 threads between the branches of the wheatear stitch.

The large leaf and buds on the right side of the design are identical to those on the left side. The buds are made using a satin stitch with 1 thread and edged with several rows of stem stitches using 2 threads.

From bottom to top, embroider the leaves using Cretan stitch, satin stitch, lazy daisy stitch, and long and short stitch. The stems are made using stem stitch. This entire group of leaves is made using 2 threads.

Embroider the main stems using several rows of stem stitches with 2 threads. Work the stitches in the same way as those done previously. The small flower is embroidered using satin stitch with 1 thread and the leaves surrounding it using satin stitch with 1 thread and lazy daisy stitch with 2 threads.

Part D

Fill this flower with several rows of 2-thread chain stitches and place a few 1-thread blanket stitches in a circle at its top. The leaves surrounding it are embroidered with 2-thread lazy daisy stitches.

These last leaves are embroidered using Cretan stitch, close-set fly stitch, and fishbone stitch, all with 2 threads. Embroider the twig using stem stitch and French knot, all with 2 threads.
