Needlecase “Flowerbed”

Here’s the latest in my series of needle holders.

As its name suggests, it’s covered in flowers!

I wanted it to be as joyful as the promise of spring, with dense embroidery and luminous colors.

This needle case is based on the same principle as its predecessors. With the experience of repeated use, I find it particularly practical.

It has two identical pentagonal sides and opens like a shell. Adding an original closure will complete the refined impression of this object.

You will find below the explanations needed to make this embroidery, as well as the design to download HERE.

Explanations of finishing this work will be the subject of a future article.

The central rosette is embroidered with long and short stitch 1 thread and edged with 2-thread overlock chain stitch.

The center is formed by a 3-thread ribbed spider web, surrounded by a 2-thread backstitch.

Stems and leaves are embroidered in stem stitch with 2 threads.

The petals of the yellow flowers are worked in blanket stitch and the center in French knots, all with 2 threads.

The orange flowers are worked in a 2-thread satin stitch and trimmed with a few straight stitches.

The small decorative motifs between the flower groups are embroidered in 1-thread satin stitch. They are surrounded by 2 bullions stitches and 2 French knots, all with 2 threads.

To make the border I first embroidered a series of small flowers in French knots with 2 threads and 2 wraps.

Then I added 2 rows of stem stitch with 2 threads, followed by small leaves embroidered in fishbone stitch with 2 threads.

A row of 2-thread and 2 wraps French knots put the finishing touches to this design.
