The blue vase

This is the first chapter devoted to this exceptional project.

I was drawn to this subject because of the interesting contrast between the vase with its plain flowers and the lightness of the flowers with their sophisticatedly-toned petals.

I offer this work in 2 versions, the first made in DMC stranded cotton and the second in Soie d’Alger from au Ver à Soie. In the explanations, the first color indicated DMC yarns, which in brackets refers to au Ver à Soie yarns.

You can find the pattern to download HERE.

This article is dedicated to making the vase with the list of colors used and with two photos of the first patterns created in this project.

As for future workflows, I plan to devote an article to the execution of each flower in particular, with a list of its colors and photos of its realization with their corresponding explanations.

Here’s a picture of the vase with its flowers, painted by myself, so you can better target the colors to use before making the final choice.

List of colors used to embroider the vase

DMC stranded cotton  793, 792, 158, 791, 415

Soie d’Alger ( Au Ver à Soie)  4913, 4914, 4915, 4916, 1742

General explanations

To embroider this motif I used

– split backstitch with 1 thread

– satin and long and short stitch with 1 thread

– stem stitch with 2 thread

– straight stitch with 2 threads

The first stitches

The leaves are embroidered in long and short stitch with color 792 (4914), adding a few stitches of color 158 (4915) at the base. When finished, each motif is back-stitched with color 791 (4916).

Start working the petals from the top with long and short stitch and color 793 (4913), then add color 792 (4914) and finish with color 158 (4915). Backstitch the design with color 791 (4916).
