Moonlight Part 3

The sky and the river (in part)

In this article, you’ll first find explanations on how to embroider the sky, followed by those needed to embroider the river.

As for the sky, I must apologize, as I was so carried away by the creative impulse that I forgot to take several photos, but I’ll explain how I went about it.

As for the river, you’ll notice that I’ve only embroidered the background, as I need to finish embroidering the surrounding fields before I can finalize the water’s edges.

The design for this project can be downloaded HERE or directly from the 2024 designs menu on this blog.

The sky

Using color 53C and two threads, start by covering all the lines on the design with simple, small forward stitches.

Secondly, underline the lines already embroidered with a few rows of stem stitch using the white color and 2 threads as shown in the photo. Then intersperse a few short rows of small white stitches with only 1 thread. Finish by embroidering two rows of stem stitch with 2 threads and the dark blue at the top of the sky.

For the sky I used House of Embroidery 53C Mexico and DMC B5200 and 3750 stranded cottons.

The river (partially)

I embroidered the river background using 3 different colors. Start by embroidering lines with small stitches using the white color and 2 threads on the design lines.

Continue by adding a few yellow stitches with color 726 as shown in the photo.

Finish by adding new lines of small stitches with 2 threads and color 36C to fill the empty spaces.

This work is only the first part of the river work. We’ll complete it when the surrounding fields are finished.

For the river, I used House of Embroidery 36 the Sea and DMC B5200 and 726 stranded cottons.
