Schwalm embroidery bouquet

3rd part, the embroidery of the patterns

Sun

The grid is attached with white DMC n°80 lace thread. It is also possible to use simple sewing thread (cotton) relatively thick.

The woven interior of the design is made with DMC “Broder spécial” cotton #25 white.

A very particular technique is used to form a regular grid of 2 threads / 2 threads. I explained it in an article published in 2018 entitled

“Introduction to Schwalm Whitework”

I advise you to follow the link above and you will find all the explanations necessary to make this grid as well as those necessary to weave the inner pattern.

Here is a picture of a grid formed by 2 threads left in place followed by 2 threads drawn horizontally and vertically.

Here is the same grid when the threads are tied 2 by 2 using the traditional method.

Here is the embroidered grid with a woven pattern on 11 holes that match the size of this grid. Below are examples of grids to use depending on the number of holes in your own design.

Heart

To embroider the inside of this design, I used #8 white and 815 DMC Perle cotton.

To obtain this grid you have to leave 3 threads in place and pull the fourth one, horizontally and vertically.

To form the grid, wrap the white Perle cotton around 3 threads at a time and over a distance of 2 packages of 3 threads. Work in a “staircase” pattern.

Here is the background of the finished design.

With the Perle cotton 815, embroider now the star patterns by referring to the proposed diagram. You must leave an empty square between 2 stars.

With the white Perle cotton, embroider now 4 lazy daisy stitches starting from the center of each square left empty.

Basket

To embroider the design of this basket I used white Perle cotton.

Here is the grid pattern to embroider the basket. Work in the same way as for the heart, on 3 threads and by packs of 2 times 3 threads.

Tulips

To embroider the tulips, I chose 2 different designs, both made with DMC “Broder spécial” cotton n° 25 color 815.

To make this first pattern, leave 3 threads and remove 1 thread, horizontally only and referring to the proposed design. Turn the work 180° at the end of each row of stitches before starting a new one.

Work in exactly the same way to make this second pattern.
