Passionately Red

Background

This project is divided into two parts.

The first consists of simple backstitches embroidered with the variegated thread you have chosen and 1 thread. In the example shown here, the thread used is Stef Francis (UK) extra fine silk n°28.

The second part is made up of stars in the wheatear stitch, satin stitch, and ribbed spider web stitch. I used colors 3750, 931 and 3752 alternately.

Below you’ll find the explanations you need to work this background, as well as step-by-step photos of how to make the wheatear stitch. This particular stitch does feature in the stitch menu on this blog, but I wanted to take advantage of its use here to offer you a more detailed version.

First part, the small stitches

2nd part, the stars

Embroider the large motifs in wheatear stitch with 2 threads, alternating colors.

Insert straight stitches with 2 threads between the branches of the wheatear stitch, also alternating colors.

The smallest motifs and dots are embroidered with satin stitch using 1 thread, alternating between the 3 colors.
