Here are the explanations needed to embroider the bird’s tail.

The colors used are

DMC 931, 3031, 3371, ecru, 3716, 3832 and 355.

Begin by embroidering the central part and the end of the feathers as before.

Mark the shape of the feather “toupee” with straight stitches 1 thread in color 355.

Then continue to embroider with straight stitches to obtain a full feather end.

Here is a finished feather. I used stem and straight stitch, all with 1 thread for the brown filaments.

Here is a close-up photo of the ends of several feathers.

Here is a picture of the small insect located on a bamboo branch to the right of the embroidery and that I completely forgot! It is embroidered with satin stitch 1 thread.

And finally the ultimate touch …

A beautiful series of French knots 2 threads 2 wraps, then 2 threads 1 wrap for the smaller ones located at the top of the wing.

Bravo Laurence, l’ouvrage est superbe. Je n’etais pas convaincue des couleurs au debut, mais c’etait exactement ce qu’il fallait pour donner cette impression d’ancienne toile. Merci pour cette belle broderie!!!
