From flower to honey

the bee (without wings)

This post is dedicated to the realization of the bee’s body without its wings which will be realized in stumpwork later.

Here are the threads used to embroider this design

DMC stranded cotton 3371, 830, 831, 372, 435, 676 

Metallic thread n°4 “Au Ver à Soie” col. 021

 

After marking the outline of the abdomen and the horizontal lines of the stripes with backstitch, pad them with 3 threads and cover them with satin stitch in the order shown in the photo, all with color 3371.

Embroider the empty lower part of the abdomen with Turkish work using 3 threads and color 830.

Work in the same way to fill in the different stripes of the abdomen using the indicated colors.

Embroider the upper part of the body as follows

  1. Turkish work with 3 threads and color 676.

  2. First, embroider the center line in Palestrina stitch with 3 threads and color 372. Then, embroider the side parts with 4-thread padding and color 435.

  3. To work the head, first pad the surface horizontally with 6 threads and cover with 1 thread satin stitch and color 3371. Finish by embroidering a few straight fan-shaped stitches with metallic thread to represent the eyes.

  4. Embroider the legs in chain stitch with 3 threads and color 3371. Overcast with metallic thread.
