From flower to honey

background embroidery part 1

This article is dedicated to the realization of the honeycombs which form the background of this embroidery.

These patterns are worked in a very simple way. They are composed of a juxtaposition of straight stitches worked in precise color order. Each new color added must overflow the previous one to form a fade-out impression. 

It is essential to always apply the colors in the order indicated, however, it is also important to achieve different shapes in the application of color patches.  This will bring life and diversity to a background whose repetitive pattern might otherwise seem monotonous.

                                               

As a reminder, here are the threads used to embroider this background

DMC stranded cotton 844, 545, 546, 746, 676, 728, 3828, 869

 

Edge the pattern and make the honeycombs

The contour of the design and the few stitches in the empty cells are embroidered in backstitch with 2 threads. The cells are also made in backstitch but with only one thread. 

Order of application of the different colors

Start by applying color 746

Continue with color 728 

Then the color 3828

Finish with color 869

It is important to place the colors in the order shown above!
