Embroider a butterfly step by step
Here you can see how to embroider step by step a butterfly in the needle painting technique
We used the following stitches

Split back stitch

Straight stitch

Long and short stitch
The entire work is done with one thread of DMC cotton floss and here are the colors we have used
DMC cotton floss 310, 931, 3777, 4130, 745, 728 and 3790

Embroider the contour of the wings with split back stitch in black
Embroider the outside parts of the wings with satin stitch in blue
Add straigth stitches in black over the blue satin stitch
Embroider the first colored part of the top wings in satin stitch with DMC 4130, spilling over the blue and black part
Add, using again satin stitch the first black part of the top wings encroaching on the previously embroidered part. Embroider also the three independent black spots with satin stitch overflowing the marks indicated on the design
In the same way, embroider one « step » in pale yellow, then black then bright yellow, then black and finally bright yellow until you come to the bottom of the wings. Also embroider the black spots of the lower wings
Embroider with long and short stitch the remaining yellow part until the first black spots
Finish to embroider the rest of the top wings with long and short stitch using DMC 3777 well encroaching on the black spots
Fill the low wings with long and short stitch using DMC 4130
Embroider the contour of the body, the abdomen and the head of the butterfly with split back stitch using DMC 3790
Fill up in the direction of the length, the body, the abdomen and the head with straight stitches with two threads of the same color
Embroider with satin stitch across the body, the abdomen and the head of the butterfly. Embroider the antennas with straight stitch and put a tiny lazy daisy stitch at the tip of both ends
