Moonlight part 4

The Meadow

In this article, you’ll find all the information you need to embroider the meadow, a fascinating piece of needlework created entirely in the long and short sticth technique.

It’s essential to respect the direction of the stitches, as they are essential to representing the ground movements and the undulations of the prairie grasses.

I suggest you follow the step-by-step photos below to guide you through the work in detail. The drawing for this project can be downloaded HERE or directly from the 2024 drawings menu on this blog.

The Meadow

Start the work by embroidering the upper part of the meadow.

On the right, fill the small upper part with color 4075 then continue with color 4124 but delimit the top of this part with split backstitch, all with color 4124 and with color 5C along the edge of the river.

On the left, embroider the upper part with color 4075 then add a few stitches with color 30C.

Continue by working the right-hand section with the color 30C and marking a curve with the dots to suggest the movement of the terrain.

Continue filling in the meadow, working downwards, and color 5C while continuing the curve of the land with the direction of the stitches.

Extend the work by adding 58BC color…

… and finish with color 69A.

For the left-hand part of the meadow, embroider now with the color 76C and as on the right, first delimit it with a line of split backstitch. Then add a few stitches with color 30C in the lower part.

Mark the edge of the river with the color 5C, respecting the direction of the stitches to mark the curve of the terrain, and complete the filling of the surface by adding colors 5C and 58BC.

Finish the job by placing the color 5C in the empty left-hand area and finally the color 69A at the bottom of the surface.
