A Bird Song

large leaves and flowers

This is the second article in a series devoted to the “Birdsongproject.

As usual, each article will contain photos, explanations and several color variations for this work.

The design for this project can be downloaded from the first article or directly from the 2024 designs menu on this blog.

Today we’ll look at creating the group of large flowers at the bottom left of the design. They are important because they ensure the balance of the design concerning the birds, both of which are located on the right-hand side of the subject.

The leaves

Using 2 threads, embroider the central part of the leaf with a spaced Cretan stitch.

Still using 2 threads, place straight stitches in contrasting colors between the branches formed by the Cretan stitch.

Then embroider the outline of the leaves laterally in spaced blanket stitch with 2 threads and finish with a line of split backstitches (2 threads) between the 2 parts of the design.

Embroider the small leaves irregularly with satin stitch 1 thread and finish by marking the center vein with 1 thread stem stitch.

The flowers

First embroider the central part of each petal, in this case yellow, with 1 thread.

Then mark the outer part of the pattern with a split backstitch.

Fill this outer area as evenly as possible with satin stitch 1 thread.

To finish the petal, sprinkle the central part with small backstitches using 2 threads and the variegated color.

Here’s a photo of the first flower with its leaves. The hearts of the flowers are made with satin stitch and covered with 1-thread straight stitches forming a star, all with 1 thread.
