Wildflowers

After spending several weeks working on the project for Inspirations Studio, I wanted to return to the freshness of a lighter arrangement, inspired by the simple flowers that brighten the meadows in early summer. Poppies, daisies, cornflowers, wild umbels, and golden spikes come together here in a colorful, vibrant bouquet, as if picked along a country path.

This new project, titled “Wildflowers,” also marks a return to the blog’s usual format:
You’ll find the pattern available for download HERE, along with a detailed description of the yarns used, as well as numerous close-up photos accompanied by step-by-step technical instructions below.

Carefully coloring this drawing by hand allowed me to fully immerse myself in the project’s atmosphere and envision the interplay of threads that will give this composition its freshness, light, and the lively, joyful spirit so characteristic of wildflowers.

To get off to a pleasant start on this new project, I suggest we begin by embroidering the sunflower, whose bright, warm colors immediately set the tone for this composition inspired by wildflowers.

The threads

To ensure easy access to supplies and to use threads available worldwide, this project is made entirely with DMC cotton threads, as well as a few variegated shades from House of Embroidery, chosen to add more movement and subtlety to the colors of the design.

The Sunflower

With its golden petals and delicately textured center, the sunflower instantly brings warmth and vibrancy to the arrangement. It’s a particularly enjoyable flower to embroider, as it allows you to play with shades right from the very first stitches, bringing the entire project to life.

The small petals at the back of the corolla are embroidered using a single-thread satin stitch in color 4126.

First, embroider the upper part of the main petals using 1 strand of thread in color 3822.

Finish making the petals by adding color 725.

Embellish the base of each petal by embroidering a 2-strand bullion stitch in color 4126, surrounded by 2 2-strand lazy daisy stitches in color 37A.

First, embroider a circle using a 2-thread backstitch on the outer part of the center with color 24A. Fill in the center with a trellis stitch, using color 3078 for the satin stitch in the center of the design, then cover it with a trellis stitch 1 thread and color 24A. Finally, insert a wreath of double-threaded French  knots with 2 wraps in color 732 in the middle section of the center.

The sunflower is now finished.

Next week, we’ll continue our journey through the heart of the wildflowers by embroidering two new flowers that are emblematic of summer: the poppy, with its scarlet petals, and the daisy, with its freshness and simplicity.
