Strawberries and Ipomoeas

Here you will find the necessary pictures and instructions to help you in completing the “Strawberries and Ipomoeas” design

It is the same instructions you will find accompanying the printed linen that you can buy as usual from here in our online shop. The color pictures displayed in this post are supposed to give you a clear view of the way we have embroidered each design.

The color list is included in the kit and is also available on our website.

We used 11 different stitches to complete this design

Stem stitch, lazy daisy stitch, back stitch, split back stitch, Cretan stitch, French knot, blanket stitch, straight stitch, long and short stitch, satin stitch, double cast-on stitch.

Don’t forget that each surface embroidered with satin stitch or long and short stitch must be first encircled with a split back stitch 1 thread!

The stems are embroidered with stem stitch 2 threads. The tendrils are embroidered with back stitch 2 threads

The leaves are embroidered with long and short stitch 1 thread and the veins with back stitch 2 threads and we used House of Embroidery varigated stranded cotton Forest 54.

For the outside part of these leaves we used House of Embroidery varigated stranded cotton Holly 56 and  DMC floss cotton 368 and 3346 for the inner parts and the veins.

The strawberries are embroidered with long and short stitch 1 thread on a 3 threads padding.

The small spots are made of tiny straight stitches 3 threads for the large strawberries and 2 threads for the small ones. (don’t pull the thread too tight to prevent the spots to disappear in the strawberries).

The sepals are embroidered with double cast-on stitch 1 thread for the large strawberries and with lazy daisy stitch 2 threads for the small ones.

For the stems and the sepals, we used House of Embroidery varigated stranded cotton Forest 54BC. For the strawberries we used DMC floss cotton 666, 321, 816 and 165 for the spots.

The petals are embroidered with blanket stitch 2 threads. Add 3 straight stitches 2 threads radiating towards the center with 2 threads in each petal.

The centers are embroidered with French knots 2 threads and 2 wraps.

For that flower, we used DMC floss cotton B5200 and Color Variations 4075.

The leaves are embroidered with Cretan stitch 2 threads.

We used alternately DMC floss cotton 500 and 501.

The top of each petal is embroidered with blanket stitch 1 thread. Then, working to the base of the petal, add 3 ” rows” of long and short stitch of 3 different colors also with 1 thread.

The centers are embroidered with satin stitch 1 thread. I added some straight stitches with 1 thread of the same color as used in the center to the edge of the petals to enhance depth.

The violet flowers are embroidered with DMC floss cotton 550, 327, 209, 917 and B5200.

The blue flowers are embroidered with DMC floss cotton 3746, 3747, 155, 939 and B5200.
