Dahlias, strawberries and butterfly
You will find below the generalities and the first steps in the realization of this project.
Although this embroidery is mainly done with long and short stitch, while working on it you will have the opportunity to use a variety of stitches that you are probably familiar with and whose explanations can be found in the stitch catalog available in the “Stitches” menu.
The finished project measures about 23/20 cm. I chose to embroider it on vanilla colored linen and with DMC stranded cotton. As I work on it, I would like to focus on the possibility of using the wide range of colors offered by DMC through the petals of the dahlias and the wings of the butterfly (which lend themselves particularly well) to make beautiful camaieux using long and short stitch.
As usual, you can download the design of this embroidery in the menu “Patterns 2021”.
This project will be the subject of several articles and I will put online the colors used for each pattern. I will also guide you, with many explanations and arrows, on placing the colors in each pattern.
Without a special note, long and short stitch, satin stitch, and split backstitch stitch used in this work have to be done with only 1 thread.
I know that many of you are afraid of long and short stitch work, so I would like to emphasize that in this project this exercise is very basic. The success of this project lies in the correct placement of the colors.
