Dahlias, strawberries and butterfly

The large pink and red dahlia

You will find below the explanations necessary for the realization of this dahlia.

The petals of this flower are embroidered exclusively with long and short stitch. The center is made also with long and short stitch but covered with detached buttonhole stitch or needle lace, stem stitch and Turkish work.

Regarding the petals, to guide you in their realization I chose the following method

Below is a photo of all the petals finished with 4 arrows and letters. Each letter corresponds to the color gradient I used for this type of petal. Just look at the photo to see how to embroider the flower.

The threads used to make this pattern are

DMC stranded cotton 818, 893, 891, 321, 816 and 3708

The petals

The petals are embroidered starting at the top of each design

A   816

B   891 321 816

C   3708 893 891 321 816

D   818 3708 893 891 321

The center

After outlining the design with split backstitch, pad it with 3 threads and color 818. Cover the entire area with long and short stitch using colors 318, 3708, and 893.

Now cover this entire area with detached buttonhole stitch (commonly called needle lace) 1 thread and color 321. You will find the explanations of this stitch HERE or directly in the “Stitches” menu under the heading “Filling stitches stitches”.

Embroider a ring around the center using several rounds of stem stitch 2 threads and color 818.

Fill in the remaining area with Turkish work with 3 threads and color 891. You will find the explanations of this stitch HERE or directly in the “Stitches” menu in the “Decorative stitches” section.

After carefully cutting the loops, here is the center fully complerted.
