Dahlias, strawberries and butterfly

complete butterfly

Below you will find the necessary explanations to complete the butterfly.

Threads

To embroider this butterfly, I used the colors:

DMC 918, 3776, 722, 3787, 642, 3747, 3840, 3839, 3838, 820

The upper wing

Mark the outline and veins of the wing with split backstitch 1 thread and color 3787.

Also, mark the interior designs of this small area with split backstitch and color 918.

Fill in the area with long and short stitch and color 3747, then the small spots with satin stitch and color 918.

Cover the main surface of the wing with long and short stitch using the three colors 3840, 3839, and 3840 from lightest to darkest.

Embroider the edge of the wing with color 3787.

Finish by adding small 1 thread straight stitches with color 3776 to decorate this edge.

Body

1. Underline and then pad the lower part of the butterfly’s body. Cover with satin stitch and the color 3787.

2. Make the next part in the same way as before but alternating colors 3787 and 918 to embroider the satin stitch.

3. The 3rd part of the body is embroidered in Turkish work (see the heart of the large red dahlia) using 3 threads in color 3787.

4. Finally, finish by embroidering the head like the lower part of the body and with the same color.

This project is now complete!
