Mexican needlecase

Here are the necessary explanations for the realization of this needlecase. The pattern is issued from Mexican folklore. It is a country that has a great tradition of craftsmanship in many areas but where embroidery holds a preponderant place.

You may remember that last year we already made an octagonal needlecase called “my favorite needlecase”. You will find the assembly instructions HERE because you just have to do exactly the same job with this one.

List of used threads

  • House of Embroidery stranded cotton Apple 67, Strelitzia 68 and Iris 57

  • DMC stranded cotton 740, 742, 3821, 791, 3839, 154, 604 et 602

The contours of the birds are embroidered with stem stitch 3 threads. The wings are made with stem stitch and blanket stitch all with 2 threads. Add satin stitch 1 thread under the wings of the right bird as well as 2 straight stitches 2 threads for the beak and a French knot 2 threads 2 wraps for the eye.

The stems are embroidered with Portuguese stem stitch and with 3 threads. After embroidering the outline of each leaf with split backstitch, finish embroidering with satin stitch 1 thread.

The petals of this flower are embroidered with blanket stitch1 thread. The center is composed of a ribbed spider web made with 2 threads and a French knot with 2 threads and 2 wraps.

These small yellow flowers are embroidered with lazy daisy stitch 2 threads.

The flower on the right is made with bullion stitch 2 threads (2 per petal starting and finishing in the same holes). The petals of the right flower are embroidered with double lazy daisy stitch and 2 threads. The center is composed of spider web made with 2 threads and a French knot  2 threads 2 wraps in the center.

The petals of this flower are embroidered at with blanket stitch1 thread and decorated with a lazy daisy stitch 2 threads. The center consists of a spider web made with 2 threads and surrounded by several rows of small backstitches also embroidered with 2 threads. Add a French knot 2 threads 2 wraps in the center.

The petals of this flower are embroidered with blanket stitch 1 thread and the center with several rows of backstitch 2 threads, completed with a French knot  2 threads 2 wraps.

The edge of the needlecase is embroidered with Palestrina stitch and House of Embroidery Perle cotton nr 8 Larkspur 80.
