Generally the encroaching fly stitch is worked circularly and allows to obtain plain round surfaces with a sort of thicker outer ring.

We use it here to embroider Agapanthus. You have to work the stitch in the same way you would do for the common fly stitch but each ” Y ” is independent from the others and ends in the same central point.
