A Vintage Bookmark

It is when thinking of small Christmas gifts quickly made but still very popular that I had the idea to propose you this nostalgic bookmark for romantic readings.

As usual, you will find the pattern to download HERE.

Here are the colors I used

  •  House of Embroidery stranded cotton Bulrush 3 for the leaves
  • House of Embroidery stranded cotton Good on Black 89 (both colors) and Basket 31 for the flowers
  • House of Embroidery stranded cotton Maple 65 for the dried flowers

The leaves are embroidered with fishbone stitch and 1 thread.

The petals are embroidered with satin stitch 1 thread and the centers with French knots 2 threads and 2 wraps.

These flowers are embroidered with fly stitch and 2 threads.

Here is the finished design.

For finishing, I used very fine fleece, fusible Vlieseline (quality S520), felt and ribbon.

Taking into account the size of my embroidery, I prepared a template that I cut in a piece of thick paper. Using this template, I drew the outline of the bookmark on the fabric and I embroidered it with Palestrina stitch and 3 threads. I then cut the fabric all around leaving about 1 cm for the flaps.

Still using the template, I cut the fine fleece, the Vlieseline and the felt.

To make the assembly, I first put the thin fleece on the backside of the embroidery, and then the Vlieseline and I  ironed altogether. I folded and glued the edges of the fabric being careful to form nice corners. I then glued the ribbon on the top of the bookmark and finished by gluing the felt on the whole backside.

And here’s the result!
